Tim Burton's Vincent from 1982 - #shortfilm

Vincent is a 1982 stop motion short horror film written, designed and directed by Tim Burton, and produced by Rick Heinrichs. It is the second Disney horror film, the first being The Watcher in the Woods.

Vincent is the poetry story of a 7-year-old boy, Vincent Malloy, who pretends to be like the actor Vincent Price (who narrates the film). He does experiments on his dog Abercrombie in order to create a horrible ravenous Zombie dog. He is obsessed with the tales of Edgar Allan Poe, and it is his detachment from reality when reading them that leads to his delusions that he is in fact a tortured artist, deprived of the woman he loves, mirroring certain parts of Poe's "The Raven".

Tim Burton - Vincent (1982)

Fun Facts:

  • An early form of the character of Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas can be seen in the upper-left corner of the screen from 1:18-1:25 as well as in front of the embodiment of his deceased wife from 4:45-4:47.

  • In an interview Tim said his loneliness as a kid forced him to create his own world in his head. Pretty much like Vincent, also, almost every Tim Burton character looks like Tim Burton.

This is what people think about it:

"Terrifying. Tim is such a genius, I love his creepy twisted beautiful mind!"

"This is most likely what Tim Burton's childhood was like."

"Is it me or does that cat look like the cat from Coraline?"

"Am I the only one who thinks Vincent looks a tad like Victor from Corpse Bride?"

"I love this so much! It was my favorite extra on the Nightmare before Christmas DVD."
